I. THE NAME
This phrase draws ode to Rene Magritte, a famous Belgian Painter who is globally recognized by his painting ‘La Trahison des Images’or The Treachery of Images. In this painting he juxtaposes a drawing of a pipe with the text ‘Ceci n'est pas une pipe’ or This is not a pipe.
Many individuals reproached Rene because of his critique on the relationship between language and reality.
For Rene, there was an another way to think about this relationship and it involved dissenting the visual dependence on language.
Much like Rene, we want to dissent the viewer upon the dependence of language but also take them on a journey for deeper questioning. Pas Une Marque is not a clothing brand. It is a contradiction that allows us to explore philosophical principles such as those referenced by Rene while building a community that believes in breaking the logical shortcuts taken from an established and accepted chain of thought in order to promote alternative thinking.
